Birthday Girls

This morning we started with Math.  We talked about Math Facts and looked at our folders.  Kit took her first math facts test today since she was sick.  Next we spent some time catching up on work.  We caught up on mixed media art, and PeeWee and some other kids did thier math assessment.  Today we also learned about donating books to the used book sale.  The goal for the school is to donate 6,000 books.  Razorback thinks the sale is a good idea!  Today in Reading Workshop we practiced Read to Someone.  Our stamina is up to 4 minutes.  Link and  Pee Wee read Green Eggs and Ham.  In Esperanza Rising, we learned that Esperanza's dad was killed by bandits.  Esperanza was really sad.  Ash thinks the uncles were the criminals.  In Science we started our first activity about water and we predicted what happens when water spills on something.  At the end of the day we celebrated Judy Amber and Carly's birthdays.  We sang to them and ate some veggie chips.  Then we went to library!

Sad Read Aloud

We started our day with P.E. and played soccer and flag tag.  Kcrob liked playing flag tag.  Next we did Math and we took the Unit 1 Assesement.  Emma thought it was hard, but is glad that she finished it.  Next we did Reading Workshop.  Today we highlighted spelling words in our Word Study folders and we practiced Read to Someone for 3 minutes.  Door Runner liked highlighting his words in his folder.  After lunch we read more of Esperanza Rising.  We read a part that was really sad.  We think Esperanza's dad died.  Dempsey thinks that it was not her dad in the back of the wagon, and that they will find him.  Then we went home!

Science Notebook Day

This morning in Math we talked about clues that help us know whether to add or subtract.  Katie uses the clue "in all" to add.  Then we did Writing Workshop.  We made a Tree Map for our introduction to our story.  We included when, where, who, how or why and what.  Nadia's who is his story is his friend Ben.  Today in Reading Workshop we read more of Never Smile At a Monkey.  Animal Hero learned that a box jellyfish is poisonous and can kill you.  Before lunch Ms. C read a book called The Autism Acceptance Book.  Rolias learned that people with autism have it when they are born.  We are learning about N and how he is different from us.  In Read Aloud Danny, his dad and Sergent Samways tried to get the birds across the road, but they all landed on Mr. Hazell's car and they were pooping on it and scratching.  Some of them went inside and then Mr. Hazell drove off in a rage while birds flew around him.  Bunny like that they got payback!  Then we went to P.E. and played Cage Ball.  Ms. Bunny M liked playing with the big ball.  Last we started our new science notebooks and we colored the first page with the title Water.  Kit thought it was fun!

MAP test Monday

This morning we started right away by taking the MAP math test.  Katie said it was hard for some people.  When we were finished, we finished our art from Friday and did our Math Review.  Ash worked on his Math Review.  In Reading Workshop we read a new book called Never Smile at a Monkey: and 17 Other Important Things to Remember.   Omega learned to never pet a platypus because it has poisonous feet.  Today in Read Aloud Mr. Hazell found out that Danny and his dad had all the pheasants.  He was REALLY mad!  That was Carly's least favorite part of the book.  Then we went to Music.  We got to play instruments and Horse Girl's favorite part was the story of the lion and the mouse. She thought it was funny.  At the end of the day we learned about a new Thinking Map called a Tree Map.  Ms. Bunny M chose teachers as one of her categories.  Also, today we voted on our first TEAM award and we will get our award on Friday.  On Friday we will have PJ Day!!!!

Writing Day

This morning we went straight to P.E. and we played Crab Soccer again, and some other games.  Omega liked playing Cage Ball Blastout.  Next we did Math and we worked on more How Many More? problems.  Starry Star 33 thought it was fun.  In Writing we learned a new stragegy.  We thought of an object and listed times we remember with that object.  Dempsey chose his Family Game Night game.  Then we started on first story.  We did a Circle Map on something we did with a family member or friend.  Panda is writing about going to the Nutcracker with her aunt.  Today in Reading Workshop we talked about asking questions and the main idea.  Gymnastics Suit started reading Matilda today.  It is really good!  In Read Aloud Danny and his dad caught 120 pheasants!  Bunny can't wait to see if Mr. Rabbits is waiting for them at the filling station.

Judy Amber

PE Day

Today in Math we made different combinations of 37 and 137, using hundreds, tens and ones.  Rolias made a combination of 1 hundred, 1 ten, and 27 ones.  In Writing Workshop we learned a new generating ideas strategy where we thought of a special place.  Amber Judy chose the Oregon Coast.  In Reading Workshop we started with a book called Mr. Lincoln's Way.  Omega like the atrium that was in the book; birds land in the atruim.  In our Read Aloud book, Danny and his dad are waiting for the pheasants to fall asleep.  While they were waiting they saw the head keeper, Mr. Rabbits.   They were worried they would get caught.  Link predicts the birds will fall out of the trees.  In P.E. we played Crab Soccer.  Razorback likes Crab Soccer because you get crawl like crabs.  Today in Science we compared pencils and markers.  Bunny wrote that pencils and markers are both tools!
